Skiing from November to May
Your snow-sure ski area in Ötztal
Normally, the winter brings lots of snow to the Ötztal - especially in the mountain village of Obergurgl. Furthermore, not only skiers, but also cross-country skiers, tourers and free riders are pleased to know that they can rely on our high altitude and snow cover. But even in unusual winters when the heavens decide to release a bit less of the white stuff, Obergurgl is still among the best snow-sure ski areas.
Snow-suredness in Ötztal thanks to modern technology
In order for your ski holidays in the Ötztal to be the experience of dreams, something you look forward to for months in advance, Obergurgl gives Mother Nature a helping hand via high-tech snowmaking equipment. Incredibly, we can cover almost 99% of our total of 110 kilometres of slopes with man-made snow, so that you can always enjoy the region’s unique panoramas and its majestic views.
Five weather stations in the Ötztal provide our snowmaking system with all necessary weather information. A central computer automatically knows when it is cold enough for snow production, and before you know it, glittering flakes are already falling to the ground. The only ingredients: reservoir water, air and cold temperatures. This means that Obergurgl is not just home to a snow-sure ski area, but also helps to preserve the nature of the Ötztal.
Spring skiing until May
You just cannot get enough of skiing and would prefer to still ski while enjoying the early summer temperatures on your ski holiday? The high alpine location makes the Ötztal a snow-sure ski area into early May. The snow continues to hold onto its phenomenal quality for sun-hungry ski aficionados, thus we recommend the glacier ski area of Sölden in midsummer.
