Alpine timeout

Calm down on top. A pleasant hike in the alpine yet diverse landscape of Gurgl will perfectly help you do so. Passing tranquil mountain lakes, through centuries-old stone pine forests, and along leisurely flowing mountain streams, numerous hiking trails & paths lead directly into nature. And with it, a little bit to oneself.

The trained guides will accompany beginners and advanced in these experiences. (Except Tuesday)

  • Saturday: Adventure hike according to the weekly programme
  • Sunday: Nature park hike along the circular archaeological trail
  • Monday: Nature park hike “Experience the glacier”
  • Tuesday: Glacier picnic on your own - Alternative: leisurely e-bike tour powered by Lohmann (extra charge)
  • Wednesday: Adventure hike according to the weekly programme
  • Thursday: Adventure hike according to the weekly programme
  • Friday: Nature park hike “Searching garnets”

Hiking highlights for individual hikes:

Piccard bridge - circular trail - difficult
18 km, 1,120 metres of altitude up, 1,120 metres of altitude down, duration: 8 hours
Challenging hike with a great view of the Ötztal glacier world.
Follow the marked path from the village centre along the Gurgler stream and up to the Küppele Alm. Then up the valley to the Ramolhaus. Below the hut, there is a trail fork towards the Piccard bridge that leads to the other side of the valley. Over the Langtaleck and Schönwies hut back to Obergurgl. You can also walk the circular trail in the other direction.

Water Strider Rotmoostal - moderate
12 km, 160 metres of altitude up, 890 metres of altitude down, duration: 4 hours
Theme hike exploring the “origin of water”.
Start with the cable car going up to the Hohe Mut. From the top, you will hike towards the Rotmoosferner. Over alpine trails to a striking moraine with a view of the Rotmoosferner. To the high alpine flower world near the Schönwies hut Through the stone pine forest back to Obergurgl. Tip: Use your smartphone audio guide!

Lake area Obergurgl – moderate
9.7 km, 740 metres of altitude up, 965 metres of altitude down, duration: 5 hours
Panoramic hike: the lake hopping tour on the high plateau

From the centre of Obergurgl north to the Pirchhütter Achbrücke. The hiking trail runs across the Gurgler stream and then steeply uphill to the lake area on the west side of the valley. Below the Soom lake near the trail, fork out of the valley towards Neder lake. Go down from the north shore of the lake to the Lenzenalm and to the bus stop at the road.

Archaeological circular trail – moderate
11.9 km, 870 metres of altitude up, 870 metres of altitude down, duration: 6 hours
Exciting hike with great insights into the history of settlement.
You can walk the circular trail in both directions. If you start towards the stone pine forest, you will reach the archaeological findspot Beilstein. Pass the Küppelealm until you are below the Lehnerkar, then out of the valley towards the lake area and until you reach the trail fork Soom and back to Obergurgl.

Gurgler Heide – moderate
7.2 km, 440 metres of altitude up, 440 metres of altitude down, duration: 3 hours
Smooth hike along old settlement and smugglers’ trails.
Starting in the centre of Obergurgl, follow the footpath to the village part of Kressbrunnen. At the tennis court, the trail ascends over the open area of the Gurgler Heide to a stone man, from there back to the Ferwalltal, crossing the Ferwall stream. Over the mountain ridge of the Königstal back to Obergurgl.

Village hike Gurgl – moderate
11.3 km, 715 metres of altitude up, 485 metres of altitude down, duration: 5 hours
Comfortable hike along Gurgl’s villages in the middle of this fascinating natural area.
Beginning at the Sahnestüberl, the trail leads past the Timmel stream and then slightly ascending to the Timmelsjoch high alpine road. Cross the road and follow the trail towards Hochgurgl and to the Top Mountain Crosspoint. Then the road leads to the Königstal and to Obergurgl.

Via ferrata and climbing gardens
Cool, cooler, via ferrata
A daunting rock face. You stand at its foot and think: I will never get up there. And then you can do it. Three via ferratas in Obergurgl will give you a chance.
The via ferrata Zirbenwald, the climbing garden Zirbenwald and the via ferrata Schwärzenkamm will invite you to explore the rock.
